On the Circular Polarization of Repeating Fast Radio Bursts

چکیده
Fast spinning (e.g., sub-second) neutron star with ultra-strong magnetic fields (or so-called magnetar) is one of the promising origins repeating fast radio bursts (FRBs). Here we discuss circularly polarised emissions produced by propagation effects in magnetosphere magnetars. We argue that polarisation-limiting region well beyond light cylinder, suggesting wave mode coupling are unlikely to produce strong circular polarisation for Cyclotron absorption could be significant if secondary plasma density high. However, high degrees can only large asymmetries electrons and positrons. draw attention non-detection current observations known FRBs. suggest FRBs provide key information on their help distinguish different radiation mechanisms.

On Associating Fast Radio Bursts with Afterglows
A radio source that faded over 6 days, with a redshift z ≈ 0.5 host, has been identified by Keane et al. (2016) as the transient afterglow to a Fast Radio Burst (FRB 150418). We report followup radio and optical observations of the afterglow candidate, and find a source that is consistent with an active galactic nucleus (AGN). If the afterglow-candidate is nonetheless a prototypical FRB aftergl...
متن کاملPhysical Constraints on Fast Radio Bursts
Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are isolated, ms radio pulses with dispersion measure (DM) of order 10 pc cm. Galactic candidates for the DM of high latitude bursts detected at GHz frequencies are easily dismissed. DM from bursts emitted in stellar coronas are limited by free-free absorption and those from HII regions are bounded by the nondetection of associated free-free emission at radio wavelength...
متن کاملOn the origin of the circular polarization in radio pulsars
Properties of circularly polarized waves are studied in the pulsar magnetosphere plasma. It is shown that some observational characteristics of the circular polarization observed in the pulsar radio emission can be qualitatively explained in the framework of the model based on anomalous Doppler resonance. Performed analysis provides that if the difference between Lorentz factors of electrons an...
متن کاملGravitational-wave Constraints on the Progenitors of Fast Radio Bursts
The nature of fast radio bursts (FRBs) remains enigmatic. Highly energetic radio pulses of millisecond duration, FRBs are observed with dispersion measures consistent with an extragalactic source. A variety of models have been proposed to explain their origin. One popular class of theorized FRB progenitor is the coalescence of compact binaries composed of neutron stars and/or black holes. Such ...
متن کاملRadio circular polarization of active galaxies
We present the first results of a circular polarization survey conducted with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). We demonstrate the ability to make circular polarization measurements with a standard error of only 0.01 per cent, and have detections from both blazar and non-blazar active galactic nuclei (AGN). Our results show that, as a group, BL Lac sources and quasars have systemati...
